Applying Systems Thinking to Solve a Problem

Service Description

This workshop series will develop foundational systems thinking skills for participants as they collaborate to solve an authentic and timely problem. Whether, for example, you face challenges in human resources, customer success, cross-functional teaming, a rapidly changing environment, or any other problem that requires deliberate analysis, planning, and action, this series will prove helpful. By learning about the Habits of a Systems Thinker, engaging in activities that develop capacity to apply the Habits, and then applying relevant systems thinking tools, participants will ultimately develop an action plan. By embedding their systems thinking learning to an authentic problem, participants will understand how to apply the Habits and tools to future problems using a systems thinking mindset and approach.

Outcomes: Participants will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the Habits of a Systems Thinker to assess their own areas of relative strengths and areas of desired growth.
  2. Apply the Habits of a Systems Thinker and relevant tools to define the problem from a systems thinking perspective.
  3. Utilize systems thinking mapping tools to uncover the system components that might be contributing to the identified problem.
  4. Apply the Habits of a Systems Thinker and relevant tools to determine criteria for success and goals.
  5. Determine an action plan applying systems thinking methods.
  6. Determine methods of evaluation and goal monitoring by applying a systems thinking mindset.

Structure:

  • 2-3 Day Workshop series (or equivalent)
  • Suggested follow-up could include further systems thinking capacity-building, implementation support, and/or coaching.
