Systems archetypes are multi-loop, causal loop diagrams that represent behavior seen commonly in complex systems. They can be lenses through which to view systems more clearly. In the Drifting Goals archetype, when a gap exists between a goal and reality, the goal is often lowered to close the gap. Eventually, the lowering of the goal leads to deteriorating performance.
